At Tower Steel Buildings, we specialize in designing durable and secure aircraft hangars that meet the needs of private pilots, aviation businesses, and commercial operations. Our pre-engineered steel hangars provide reliable airplane storage, maintenance space, and protection from Canada’s harsh weather conditions.
Aircraft are valuable assets, and protecting them requires a building engineered for security, safety, and efficiency. Our steel aircraft hangars are designed with wide clear-span interiors, allowing unobstructed space for planes of all sizes — from small private aircraft to large jets.
Benefits of a pre-engineered steel hangar include:
-
Clear-span design for maximum aircraft maneuverability
-
Customizable door systems, including bi-fold, hydraulic and sliding options
-
Fire-resistant, weatherproof, and low-maintenance steel construction
-
Cost-effective and faster build times compared to traditional structures

Every aviation operation is different, which is why we tailor each aircraft hangar to fit your unique requirements. Our design team can incorporate features such as:
-
Insulation for year-round comfort
-
Ventilation and climate control systems
-
Office or lounge areas inside the hangar
-
Lighting and electrical integration for maintenance facilities
Whether you need a private jet hangar, a flight school facility, or a commercial aviation storage building, Tower Steel Buildings delivers a solution built to last.
With decades of experience, our team understands the strict timelines and precision required in aviation construction. We are committed to delivering aircraft hangars that balance functionality, durability, and affordability.
Engineering a Hangar That Works
Hangars rarely fail because of the steel. Problems start when the span, doors and foundations aren’t designed together.
Size the span to the aircraft
Clear span comes from wingspan, tail height and maneuvering clearance, not floor area. Undersize it and the hangar limits operations even if it’s structurally sound. Very wide single spans get heavy fast, and added framing can be more efficient past a point.
Design the doors with the frame
Bi-fold doors add movement and load at the opening, hydraulic one-piece doors act as a large cantilever, and sliding doors need long, aligned support and suit multi-bay layouts. Tight deflection limits keep doors aligned and sealed for the life of the building.
Plan for snow drift and heavier footings
Snow drifts build up near door openings and must be designed in. Long spans concentrate loads into fewer columns, so footings get larger, with more reinforcement and precisely placed anchor bolts, and they sit below the frost line, often 4 ft or deeper in Ontario.
Codes and approvals
Hangars follow the Ontario Building Code, municipal zoning and site planning, and fire and life safety rules, plus site-specific limits near airports where they apply. See our Ontario permit guide.

Aircraft Hangar FAQs
How much does a steel aircraft hangar cost?
As a planning range, steel hangars in Ontario typically run $25–$45 per sq ft, depending on foundation, insulation and doors. A quote for your aircraft and site gives the real number.
How is clear span determined?
From the wingspan, tail height and maneuvering clearance of the aircraft you will house, plus room for any you expect to add.
Which hangar door is best?
Bi-fold suits most private and light commercial hangars, hydraulic one-piece doors give full-height clearance, and sliding doors suit multi-bay buildings. Whichever you pick, it is engineered into the frame.
Can a hangar be expanded later?
Yes, if expansion is planned in the original framing layout, column spacing and site.
What should I confirm before buying a hangar?
That the span fits your aircraft, the door is designed into the structure, deflection is controlled, snow and wind loads are correct, the foundation matches the frame reactions, and zoning and permits are feasible.
